In order to find the most competent experts out of more than 95 000 tax accountants, FOCUS-MONEY initiated, together with project manager Ulf Hausmann and auditors, a test. The academic manager Ulf Hausmann asked 30 difficult questions, for the thirteenth time in a row, in an empirical survey about the competence and specialization of tax accountants. Besides the qualification of the consultants and employees, the experts were interested in the continuity of regular further educational training and education.

In the FOCUS-MONEY-test, the Know-how of the tax professionals in their areas of expertise and specialization was examined. Furthermore, the testers wanted to know, if the consultants offered financial planning, controlling and cost accounting as parts of the business management strategy to their clients.

Further importance was put on the sales development over the last years. Points were also awarded, if the office was equipped with a ISO-9000-Qualitätssiegel (quality seal). In addition, the use of digital communication channels was surveyed and evaluated. The evaluation is based on the information provided by the offices.

In addition to the question of the project manager, auditors came up with 24 challenging questions in the field of taxes. The results of the technical questions account for 60 percent of the total result. The examination of the question were carried in cooperation with Professor Kay Blaufus from the Leibniz University in Hannover.

During the evaluation, they differentiated between small, medium or large offices- depending on the number of employees, which are operating at the given location. Small offices were considered with up to ten employees, medium from eleven to 22 employees, and from 23 onwards, the offices was considered large.
